Escambrón Beach is a hidden gem not far from Old San Juan where the locals like to go. You will find it on Avenida Muñoz Rivera in the Puerta de Tierra section of San Juan. While you could walk to this beach from Old San Juan, it is a 30 minute walk. Your best bet is to take a taxi or the local bus. The beach is open 7 days a week from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm each day. If you drive, there is a $6 parking fee.
This beach is part of the Blue Flag Beach Program which means that the water meets high standards of cleanliness. It is also the ideal beach for families. A rocky reef surrounds and protects it and as a result the waters are calm and clear and the waves are small. The swimming area is roped off and a good portion of the swimming area is no more than 3 feet deep.
The beach has outdoor showers (for rinsing off), restrooms, and plenty of picnic tables. If you come you may want to pack a lunch as there is only one restaurant and a snack bar in the vicinity.
Lifeguards are on duty daily 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
